A defensive 5-ply shakehand with about 90 g of weight to take on hard shots

A Japanese-made defensive shakehand of 5 wood plies. At about 90 g (manufacturer-stated) it is on the heavy side, built to make it easier to take on an opponent's hard shots. Besides players who defend by chopping, it is also a candidate for players who return the ball defensively close to the table.

Features

  • The manufacturer classifies it as "Defensive." 5-ply wood, 5.3 mm thick
  • Weighs about 90 g (manufacturer-stated), a heavier design
  • On Nittaku's own ratings, speed is Slow and feel is Soft
  • Blade 165×156 mm (manufacturer-stated). Country of origin: Japan
  • Two grip types to choose from: FL (flared) and ST (straight)

Recommended for

  • Players whose main style is chopping
  • Players who want to defend mainly by blocking close to the table
  • Players looking for a Japanese-made defensive racket

Pros and things to consider

Pros

  • Its weight makes it easier to absorb an opponent's hard hits
  • A Slow rating on Nittaku's scale, with restrained rebound, makes it easier to control the ball

Things to consider

  • At about 90 g it is somewhat heavy, so it may feel heavier to players used to lighter rackets
  • Because it is geared toward defense, it may not suit players who want attacking power
