A heavyweight Japanese penhold of about 100 g that makes use of unorthodox rubber on the reverse side.
The Goriki J is a Japanese penhold model designed with unorthodox rubber (such as long pips or OX rubber, which has no sponge) on the reverse side in mind. It is deliberately finished on the heavy side, at about 100 g, with a larger blade to help keep blocks stable. It suits players with an unorthodox attack-and-defense style who like to play with variation.
Features
- The plywood has 7 wood plies, all of them walnut, for a fairly firm construction.
- The manufacturer states a weight of about 100 g, which is on the heavy side, and the blade is designed on the assumption that you also hit with unorthodox rubber on the reverse side.
- The blade is round and on the large side at 160×154 mm, designed to make blocks easier to keep stable.
- Nittaku's published ratings are Mid-slow for speed and Soft for feel, and the blade thickness is 4.9 mm.
- The grip measures 90×15 mm. According to the manufacturer's notes it has an unpainted finish, and the country of origin is Japan.
Recommended for
- Japanese penhold players who want to put unorthodox rubber on the reverse side as well
- Players who want to block an opponent's hard hits steadily with a heavier racket
- Players who want to throw opponents off with varied play
Pros and things to consider
Pros
- The weight and larger blade are designed to make blocks easier to keep stable.
- Designed for a style of play that adds variation with unorthodox rubber on the reverse side.
- A Nittaku racket with Japan as its country of origin.
Things to consider
- At about 100 g it is on the heavy side, so players used to lighter rackets may need time to get used to it.
- Because it is designed on the assumption that rubber will also be attached to the reverse side, please check before choosing if you plan to use only the front side.
- Rubber is sold separately. If you attach rubber to both sides, you will need two sheets.
