A defensive 5-ply shakehand for those who are starting to learn chopping

A defensive shakehand for players who want to learn chopping (a defensive stroke that returns the ball with backspin). It is made of 5 wood plies, with a speed of Slow on Nittaku's own ratings. It can also be used for attack practice, so it suits players who want to learn both defense and offense.

Features

  • The manufacturer classifies it as "Defensive." 5-ply wood, 5.7 mm thick
  • Blade 164×156 mm, about 85 g (manufacturer-stated)
  • On Nittaku's own ratings, speed is Slow and feel is Soft
  • Plywood with a moderate rebound that helps keep chop returns steady. It can also be used for attack practice
  • Two grip types to choose from: FL (flared) and ST (straight)

Recommended for

  • Players who are starting to practice with the aim of becoming chopping-style players
  • Players who want to learn both defensive and offensive skills

Pros and things to consider

Pros

  • A calm rebound makes it easy to start practicing chopping
  • Although it is a defensive racket, it is also easy to use for attack practice

Things to consider

  • Speed is rated Slow on Nittaku's scale, so it may feel lacking for players who want attacking power
  • Because it is a defensive racket, a different racket may suit an attack-centered game better
