A 5-ply wood blade with a large, thin blade, made for chop-oriented players
The Aegis is a 5-ply wood shakehand blade for chop-oriented players (a style that defends with backspin). The blade is large at 166.5×157 mm, with a thickness of 5.0 mm. It suits players who want to build their game on defense while mixing in attacks with drives.
Features
- The blade is large at 166.5×157 mm and thin at 5.0 mm.
- A 5-ply wood blade that uses limba. Limba is regarded as a relatively soft wood that makes it easier to catch the ball.
- The bounce is kept modest by design, to steady chopping and make it easier to put heavy backspin on the ball.
- It is designed with not only defense in mind but also moments when you counterattack with drives as chances arise.
- The manufacturer-published weight is 85 g ±. Grips come in two types, FL and ST, and the blade is JTTA-approved (Japan Table Tennis Association).
Recommended for
- Players who want to play a defensive game built on chopping
- Players who want to defend while also mixing in drive attacks
- Players who also value fine technique over the table (short balls near the net)
Pros and things to consider
Pros
- The larger blade is designed to make chopping easier to keep steady.
- You can choose between two grip types, FL and ST.
- A JTTA-approved (Japan Table Tennis Association) blade.
Things to consider
- Because the bounce is subdued, it may feel lacking to players whose main priority is the power of hard hits.
- Because the blade is larger, players used to a standard size may notice a difference in handling.
- Rubbers are sold separately, so please prepare one for each side.
