Yasaka Elfrark RF Short Pips Rubber

A variation-type short pips rubber whose tall pips create a contrast between spin and knuckle balls

A variation-type short pips rubber (a rubber whose pips face outward), which the manufacturer also recommends for players trying a variation-type for the first time. You can mix balls with spin and knuckle balls (balls with little spin) to unsettle opponents, and its returns are less likely to be thrown off even against heavy spin.

Features

• Pips that are tall for a short pips rubber are combined with a sheet with strong grip.
• A design that makes it easier to unsettle opponents with the difference between spin and knuckle balls while also keeping returns steady.
• On Yasaka's own rating scale (Mark V = 10): Control 10+, Speed 8+, Spin 6+.
• Sponge hardness is 47–52° (as published by Yasaka). Two thicknesses are offered, Very thin and Medium. Made in Japan.

Recommended for

• Players with an unorthodox attack-and-defense style who are using a variation-type short pips rubber for the first time
• Players whose main style is chopping who are looking for a short pips rubber that can add variation

Pros and things to consider

Pros

• Control is 10+ (Yasaka's own rating), which makes it easier to keep returns steady even though it is a variation-type.
• It makes it easy to play with plenty of variation, using the difference between spin and knuckle balls.

Things to consider

• With Spin 6+ and Speed 8+ (Yasaka's own ratings), it is not for players who want the power of hard hits.
• Only two thicknesses, Very thin and Medium, are offered, so a thicker sponge cannot be chosen.
• A variation-type short pips rubber produces a distinctive ball character, so it takes practice to get used to.
