Yasaka Phantom 0011 Long Pips Rubber

A long pips rubber whose 1.7 mm pips and cloth grain make it easier to vary your returns

A long pips rubber (a rubber with tall pips on its surface that makes it easier to use the opponent's spin) paired with a very thin, slightly firm sponge. The combination of the pips and the cloth grain makes it easier to vary the character of the ball, and it can be used for both attack and defense.

Features

• The pips are 1.7 mm tall. Combined with the cloth grain, the design makes it easier to vary the character of the ball.
• The sponge is a slightly firm type, Very thin in thickness, with a hardness of 40–45° (as published by Yasaka).
• On Yasaka's own rating scale (Mark V = 10): Control 11, Speed 6+, Spin 4.
• A long pips rubber made in Japan, available in two colors.

Recommended for

• Players with an unorthodox attack-and-defense style who want to unsettle opponents with changes in the character of the ball
• Players whose main style is chopping who want to use the variation of long pips on defense as well
• Anyone who wants long pips with a thin sponge rather than an OX (no-sponge) rubber

Pros and things to consider

Pros

• Control is 11 on Yasaka's own rating, above the Mark V baseline (10).
• It can be used for play that takes advantage of variation, both in attack and in defense.

Things to consider

• With Spin 4 and Speed 6+ (Yasaka's own ratings), it is not the type that overpowers opponents with hard hits.
• Only one thickness, Very thin, is offered, so the sponge thickness cannot be chosen.
• The feel at impact differs from an inverted rubber, so it takes practice to get used to.
