Yasaka Tenacity Wood Chopping Shakehand Blade

A 5-ply wood blade for chopping, with a larger blade face for tenacious defense

The Tenacity Wood Chopping is a defensive shakehand blade with a larger blade. It is a 5-ply blade with a somewhat soft wood on the surface, and its manufacturer-published speed is Slow. It suits players who want to defend tenaciously, building their game on chopping (returning the ball with backspin).

Features

• The blade is the chopping size of 165×157 mm, which is larger than the regular FLA (157×151 mm).
• A 5-ply wood blade with a somewhat soft wood used for the surface material. It is produced in Sweden.
• Blade thickness is 5.2 mm, and the manufacturer-published weight is 80 g ±.
• On Yasaka's own rating, speed is classified as Slow and feel as Soft.
• The grip is FLA (flared: a grip whose end widens) and measures 100×25 mm.

Recommended for

• Players who want to build their game on chopping, returning the ball with backspin
• Players who want steadier defense with a larger blade
• Players who defend with unorthodox rubbers (such as long pips)

Pros and things to consider

Pros

• Speed is Slow, a design that makes it easier to return defensive balls calmly.
• The larger chopping blade provides a wide surface for catching the ball.
• The surface material is somewhat soft, and the feel is rated Soft.

Things to consider

• Because speed is Slow, it may feel lacking to players who value attacking power.
• Because the blade is larger, players used to a regular size may need time to get used to handling it.
• Only the FLA (flared) grip is available.
